garden variety

Summer is quickly coming to an end and it's making me nostalgic for optimistic spring days. Just a few short months ago us Yellowknifers were soaking up vitamin D, diving into Great Slave Lake and lounging beneath the midnight sun.

My parents live up north year-round and have learned to make good use of the weather. They spent the long, hot days toiling in the garden - perfecting plants, ensuring the grass is precisely the same length, and enjoying a cold Corona between projects. Here's a sneak peak into their oasis! Below are some photos my sister Kyla took, proving that there are green thumbs on the Canadian Shield.

This shot reminds me of Alice in Wonderland. An entire side of our house has that randomly whimsical feel - vintage window panes, home made birdhouses, plants that creep and crawl in every direction, lanterns and sentimental items of mum and dad's. More photos may have to be posted.
